Photon Energy posts positive half-year net results after record revenues

Photon Energy NV has published its report for 2017 Q2 with unaudited half-year figures. Photon Energy saw improvements across all business lines and recorded the highest half-year revenues in its history, which carried through to the strongest HY EBIT and highest HY profit before taxation, leading to a swing into profit after taxation.

The last quarter was another milestone in Photon Energy’s history, being the one of the best quarters in Photon Energy NV’s history and rounding off a solid first half of 2017. We have delivered significant improvements year-on-year, including a profit after taxation, and we are now harvesting the fruits of hard work and of the important steps we undertook in terms of financing, restructuring and business orientation over the past years”, commented Photon Energy CEO Georg Hotar.

Photon Energy’s half-year revenues increased 23.3% to EUR 8.031 million, while EBITDA rose 20.5% to EUR 4.193 million and EBIT was up 71.8% to EUR 1.487 million. Photon Energy also managed to turn around its loss before taxation from EUR 1.119 million in 2016H1 to a profit of EUR 0.456 million in 2017H1. This resulted in a EUR 0.082 million positive net result, compared to the EUR 1.044 million loss during the same period a year earlier.

On a quarterly basis consolidated revenues increased by 15.8% YOY to EUR 5.245 million. EBITDA increased by 11.9% to EUR 3.119 million and EBIT grew by 26.6% to EUR 1.223 million. Photon Energy recorded a profit after taxation of EUR 0.394 million in 2017Q2, compared to EUR 0.347 million for the same period last year (+13.5% YOY).

The positive figures for the first half year are mirrored by operational progress in the first six months of 2017. Photon Energy entered the Hungarian PV market, where it aims to build solar power plants for its proprietary portfolio and external clients. In Australia important progress has been made on the development of large-scale solar power projects. Photon Energy also initiated the refinancing of its corporate EUR bond 2013/2018 by mandating Munich-based Dero Bank AG to act as advisor and lead manager.

We have big plans for the upcoming quarters, in particular for adding power plants in Australia and Hungary to our proprietary portfolio. We are convinced that our continued improvements send a clear signal to current and potential investors, that we are in a sound and strong position to realise those ambitious plans”, CEO Georg Hotar concluded.

Photon Energy mandates Pottinger as financial advisors for project pipeline

Photon Energy NV has mandated financial and strategic advisory firm Pottinger Co Pty Limited, to advise on a capital raising for a solar PV project pipeline with a total generation capacity of over 1 GW in Australia.

Photon Energy’s pipeline is being developed in NSW and includes the previously announced 316 MW solar project at Gunning in New South Wales, as well as several other large-scale projects totaling around 700 MW. The combination of increasing energy prices, Large Generation Certificate prices and strong solar irradiation have turned Australia into one of the most sought-after destinations for utility-scale PV power plant investments in the world. Photon Energy NV expects to close the financing round in Q4 2017.

Photon Energy NV is seeking to bring in financial and strategic investors to accelerate development of these important solar energy projects.

“The outstanding track record of Pottinger in energy infrastructure financing has convinced us that they are the right advisors for selecting the most suitable financing partners for our 1 GW PV project pipeline. We are looking forward to working with their team on creating the highest possible value from our ambitious project development effort on the world’s sunniest continent” commented Michael Gartner, Managing Director of Photon Energy Australia.

“Mandating Pottinger is an important step in strengthening our position as one of the leading PV project developers in Australia today. Given the attractive economics of PV power plants in Australia on the back of continuously falling investment costs, our Australian PV project pipeline is on track of becoming the most valuable asset in our Group” explained Georg Hotar, Chief Executive Officer of Photon Energy NV.

Pottinger combines business leadership, investment banking, strategic consulting, big data analytics, entrepreneurship and other skills to help companies and governments unlock growth, reduce risk and accelerate impact.

Photon Energy acquires 520 KW project in Hungary

Photon Energy announces the acquisition of a project for a 520 KWp solar power plant in the North-West of Hungary. The project is ready-to-build and Photon Energy intends to start construction in 2017Q3 and connect the power plant before year-end.

Photon Energy acquired100% of the shares in Fertőd Napenergia-Termelő Kft., a Hungarian limited-liability company owning all licenses, rights and permits (including a valid construction permit) for the construction of a 520 KWp (DC) photovoltaic power plant (subject to a 499 KW AC grid connection). The project is located in the municipality of Fertőd, in the Győr-Moson-Sopron region of Hungary.

The PV plant is eligible for support under the KAT support system guaranteeing an off-take price of HUF 31,770 (EUR 103.34) per MWh of electricity supplied to the grid. During the 25-year support period the power plant is licensed to sell 14.3 GWh of renewable energy, generating revenues of at least EUR 1.478 million over the entire period.

“The acquisition of the Fertőd project expands Photon Energy’s project pipeline in Hungary to 12 projects with a planned installed capacity of 6.8 MWp”, explained Photon Energy CEO Georg Hotar. “We have certainly hit the Hungarian ground running. With this project we are sending a clear signal to our investors that we are committed to expanding our portfolio or power plants and with it significantly strengthen our long-term revenues”, Hotar concluded.
